French Open Tennis Day 8 Live Streaming

Djokovic, one of the in-form players on clay, had looked comfortable leading 4-1 in the opening set before allowing the 29th seed to take control with an array of fierce crosscourt shots.

Djokovic found himself 5-1 down in the second, saving three set points at 5-2 before breaking to keep himself in it.

Flicking over two beautiful acute-angled forehands to hold in the ninth, the world number four looked to be in the mood for a fight but could not keep up as Kohlschreiber ran him around the court and took the set with a big unreturnable serve.

The pair traded breaks at the start of the third with Kohlschreiber pulling off some eye-catching shots like the volleyed lob that had Djokovic scampering back in horror.

Sensing nothing was going his way, the 2008 Australian Open champion looked skywards in mock celebration after holding for 3-2. Kohlschreiber made the breakthough in the ninth game before serving out the match.

Kohlschreiber, who had never progressed beyond the second round at Roland Garros until this year, will next face 16th seed Tommy Robredo, after the Spaniard beat Maximo Gonzalez of Argentina 4-6 7-5 6-1 6-0.

Djokovic's defeat has removed a big obstacle from Roger Federer 's path as he seeks to reach his fourth successive final.

The match was played on a close-to-packed Suzanne Lenglen court at Roland Garros, with world number one Rafael Nadal having played earlier in the day.

Tipsarevic struggled with a groin injury from midway through the second set, and continued to play until Murray established a two-set lead.

The Serb had earlier squandered three opportunities to seal the opening set after Murray encountered real problems with his serve.

Tipsarevic broke his opponent initially in the fifth game of the set, capitalising on a weak backhand from Murray to power a forehand down the line for a winner.

A double break was then secured two games later when more indecision from Murray was seized upon by his opponent, who showed conviction in stretching his lead.

But Tipsarevic seemed incapable of converting his dominance, and allowed Murray to twice break back, belatedly finding his rhythm when it was required.

The Brit then broke again to hold the ascendency before his opponent found space to bludgeon a forehand cross court and regain parity.

Murray battled obdurately to force the tie-break and subsequently punish the Serb's inability to close out the set, taking it comfortably, 7-3.

The world number three's momentum showed no sign of abating, and he broke Tipsarevic in the opening game of the second set, pouncing on two loose strokes from the Serb to punch forehands outwide.

The contrast in the two players' emotions was stark, as Murray was clearly buoyed by his first-set resurgence, while his opponent stalked around his chair despondently.

It was at this point that the Serb called the trainer, which prompted a three-minute delay which Murray clearly did not appreciate, shaking his head with frustration.

The Brit broke his opponent for a second time in the fifth game of the set, moving the injury-stricken Tipsarevic around the court in an almost sadistic fashion.

A rally of 18 shots was won by Murray with a crushing forehand down the line, which effectively clinched victory for the third seed.

Tipsarevic weighed up his options briefly, but then with a shake of the head, offered his hand to signal a retirement, and the Brit had secured his advancement

Brazilian centre-half Alex requires a hernia operation, but has put off surgery until after the Cup final and is expected to play alongside skipper John Terry in the heart of Chelsea's defence.

Guus Hiddink, in his final game in charge of the Blues before resuming full-time coaching duties with Russia, will make late checks on the fitness of Portuguese duo Ricardo Carvalho and Deco (both hamstring).

Juliano Belletti has also responded well to treatment after picking up a thigh problem at Sunderland on Sunday but long-term casualties Joe Cole and Paulo Ferreira (both knee) are definitely out.

Everton boss David Moyes will have skipper Neville and winger Steven Pienaar available to him.

Both men have been declared fit after sustaining minor hamstring problems in Sunday's final league win at Fulham.

But the Toffees will have to make do without Mikel Arteta, Phil Jagielka, Victor Anichebe (all knee) and Yakubu (Achilles) for the trip to London.

Moyes is expected to choose between striker Louis Saha and midfielder Jack Rodwell when he completes his line-up.

Manchester United have won all of their previous European finals - 4-1 v Benfica in 1967-68, 2-1 v Barcelona in 1990/91 (Cup Winners' Cup), 2-1 v Bayern in 1998-99 and they won on penalties against Chelsea last term following a 1-1 draw.

The teams have met in one final prior to this game, in 1990-91 when United defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the Cup Winners' Cup Final.

These two sides came face to face in last season's Champions League semi-final. United prevailed 1-0 on aggregate thanks to a Paul Scholes goal in the second leg at Old Trafford.

Barcelona have only managed to win once in their last eight Champions League fixtures against an English side.

The Catalan side have scored just one goal in their last four European games against a team from England.

United are unbeaten in their last seven Champions League meetings with Spanish sides.

Manchester United are currently on an all-time record 25 game unbeaten run in the Champions League.

United have kept a clean sheet in 13 of their last 18 Champions League matches.

Away from Old Trafford in the Champions League, United are unbeaten in 13 successive matches - including last season's final v Chelsea.

Edwin Van der Sar has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Champions League this season - seven.

Keothavong had come into the tournament buoyed by her performance in Warsaw last week where she became the first British woman in 26 years to make the semi-finals of a WTA claycourt event.

But before a sparse crowd on the Philippe Chatrier court, Keovathong earned a break point in the opening game of the match and another midway through the first set, but she could take neither.

he Spaniard, who is unbeaten at Roland Garros since his debut in the clay-court Grand Slam in 2005, needed two hours and 23 minutes to go past Daniel and set up a second round meeting with Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili, who beat compatriot Igor Kunitsyn 6-7(6) 7-6(5) 6-3 6-1.

Daniel mixed up his game with cunning drop shots to try and unsettle the four-times champion but Nadal stepped up a gear at 7-5 1-3.

World number 97 Daniel got a break back in the eighth game of the third set but it was the Brazilian's final gasp and Nadal sealed the win on his opponent's serve on his first match point.

Roger Federer erased miserable memories of his last appearance on the Philippe Chatrier Court with a clinical 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory over Spaniard Alberto Martin.

Federer was on the receiving end of a 6-1 6-3 6-0 mauling by his nemesis Nadal in the final 12 months ago there was no danger of Federer being humiliated by Martin, an opponent who had snatched just one game off the Swiss in their only previous meeting.

After dropping his opening service game, Federer conjured a endless stream of glorious winners and he drew gasps of admiration from the capacity crowd as he stroked an exquisite drop shot to conclude a straightforward victory.

The 27-year-old Swiss will next face Argentine grinder Jose Acasuso, who beat another Spaniard, Santiago Ventura 3-6 7-6(5) 6-0 6-3.

Andy Roddick overcame a psychological block when he clambered into the second round with a 6-2 6-4 6-2 win over French wildcard Romain Jouan.

The American sixth seed had not made it past the first round since 2005 and with only one win on red dirt this season, few would have been surprised if Roddick had already booked his flight out of Paris.

But he made sure he would have a chance prolonging his stay at Roland Garros, where he has reached the third round only once, by eclipsing the 305th-ranked Jouan.

Roddick will next face Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic.

Russian 10th seed Nikolay Davydenko, twice a semi-finalist, booked his place in the second round by beating Austria's Stefan Koubek 6-2 6-1 6-4 with compatriot Mikhail Youzhny also advancing with a 7-6(2) 6-1 6-4 win over Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

Chilean 12th seed Fernando Gonzalez progressed with a straight forward 6-3 6-2 6-3 win over Czech Jiri Vanek and will now face Rui Machado in the second round after the Portuguese qualifier beat Belgium's Kristof Vliegen 6-2 6-4 4-6 2-6 6-3.

But Czech 19th seed Tomas Berdych crashed out of the tournament, suffering a 6-4 6-4 5-7 4-6 6-3 loss to Italy's Simone Bolelli, who will face Jeremy Chardy, after the Frenchman beat Brazil's Thiago Alves 6-2 7-6(10) 6-3.

French 32nd seed Paul-Henri Mathieu also progressed to the second round, beating compatriot Laurent Recouderc 6-4 6-4 6-1.

Spanish 28th seed Feliciano Lopez was made to work hard before overcoming Brazil's Franco Ferreiro 6-7(3) 4-6 7-6(4) 7-5 6-2 and faces Janko Tipsarevic in the second round after the Serb beat Spain's Albert Montanes 3-6 7-6(3) 7-6(5) 6-4

Sunday May 24, 2009 Kick off: 16:00 38th Day Ewood Park

West Brom have scored exactly two goals on the final day of the season in each of their previous three campaigns at this level.

In the season of the FA's respect campaign, Blackburn have picked up the most yellow cards for dissent, 18.

If the Premier League season had started on Boxing Day, WBA would be safe in 15th.

The Baggies have not tasted victory at Ewood Park since the 1990-91 season.

Rovers top scorer Benni McCarthy has scored nine of his 10 PL goals at Ewood Park this season, including the last eight in succession.

Only one of Blackburn's last six league goals has come from open play.

If the Baggies win but finish bottom (ie if Boro win as well) they will equal a 38 game Premier League season record of 34 points in 20th place.

WBA (22) are the only side to lose more than 20 games this season.

Portsmouth have won four of their five Premier League encounters with the Black Cats.

Portsmouth's average of 2.4 goals a game against Sunderland is only bettered by the 2.5 they managed in four games against Reading (excluding teams they have played in only one season).

Both of Portsmouth's winning goals against Sunderland at Fratton Park in the Premier League have been penalties.

All four goals scored in Premier League games between these sides on the south coast have come in the last 21 minutes.

At this point of last season Portsmouth had 19 more points.

At this point of last season Sunderland had lost one more game but had three points more.

Sunderland have failed to score in their last six Premier League away games.

Fellow north east strugglers Newcastle and Middlesbrough are the only home teams to fail to keep a clean sheet at home to the Black Cats in 2009.

Chelsea have lost five Premier League home games to Blackburn, only Arsenal have won more often at Stamford Bridge since 1992.

Chelsea's win percentage of 21% at home to Blackburn is their lowest against any side with more than two seasons in the Premier League.

But Blackburn have failed to score in three of their last four league games at Chelsea and have not won there since Ken Bates was chairman (February 2003).

Overall, Blackburn have now gone 497 minutes without a goal against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Chelsea have won 10 of their 14 Premier League games (71%) without Didier Drogba this season but only 13 of 22 (59%) when the Ivorian has featured.

Blackburn have averaged more goals per game without Roque Santa Cruz (1.19) than with him (1.05) this season.

Chelsea have scored more and conceded fewer than they had done after 36 games last season but have four points fewer this time round.

Only in their relegation season of 1998-99 did Blackburn have fewer points (33) than they do after 36 games this season (40).

Everton and Hull are the only Premier League away teams to keep a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge in 2009.

A first-half strike from Jonas Olsson and goals in the second period from Chris Brunt and substitute Juan Carlos Menseguez condemned the Black Cats to a demoralising defeat which undoes much of the good work achieved in their win against fellow strugglers Hull City last week.

West Brom edged an insipid first-half which was typical of both sides' struggles this season.

Unsurprisingly, given the poor play on show, the first chance of note came thanks to a deflection when Brunt's low drive from the edge of the Sunderland box almost deceived Marton Fulop after it took a nick on the way through to the stand-in Sunderland keeper on 25 minutes.

A rare moment of quality came from Kieran Richardson ten minutes later, as the Sunderland midfielder picked the ball up in space in the middle of the pitch before unleashing a powerful, swerving shot from 25 yards out which forced Scott Carson into an agile diving save to his right.

Then came the opener as a Jonathan Greening corner from the right fell nicely for Olsson at the far post, allowing the Swede to drive the ball left-footed into the Sunderland net.

Given their perilous situation, you would have expected Ricky Sbragia's side to come raring out of the blocks in the second-half. But what came after the break was somehow even worse from Sunderland, as Tony Mowbray's doomed Baggies outplayed them with apparent ease.

Sunderland had time to waste a number of promising free-kicks in the opening exchanges of the second-half before Brunt doubled West Brom's lead on the hour mark. Marc-Antoine Fortune did well to slow the ball down wide on the right before squaring the ball perfectly for Brunt to slide the ball home from close-range.

Djibril Cisse almost brought his side back into it a couple of minutes later, but he knew very little about it as he inadvertently diverted a Teemu Tainio drive narrowly over the crossbar.

This season Manchester United have shown no signs of reduction in their ruthlessness. Sure, when they were truly spanked at home by Liverpool, and then immediately defeated by Fulham, it looked for a moment as though they might falter. But that is when a true team shows itself. Since that stumble United have done anything but crack up. Largely because as a collective they don't do collapse. Against Aston Villa, Sunderland and now Wigan, when a point looked like the best they could hope for, United have insisted on seizing all three, right at the death. Their greed in accumulation knows no bounds.

Even as Wigan played out of their skin, everyone in the JJB on Wednesday knew it was coming, knew the red steam roller would eventually crush the life from its opposition. From that potential hazard conjured by Liverpool in early spring, they have simply grown stronger, with Rooney in particular now playing like the man he always promised to become as a boy. At times these past few weeks, Rooney could turn out against top teams on his own and still win. The fact that between them - Rooney, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidic and the rest - have never shown a hint of doubt is more than the mark of a team. It is the mark of champions.

And the bad news for everyone else in the division is that United's third Premier League title on the bounce is unlikely to be their last. Sure, Liverpool pushed them this season. But in the end everyone - including their manager - knows the Merseysiders are not as good as their old rivals, do not have the depth of squad, the experience, the power. They are a work in progress, who might come good, but not yet. And that's a fact.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are ageing too quickly and Arsenal not quickly enough. Compare Arsenal's youngsters to United's. While Arsenal's lavishly talented teenagers like Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere are obliged to find their own way in an atmosphere of disappointment and under-achievement, United's Jonny Evans, Federico Macheda, Danny Welbeck and the Da Silva twins are learning how to win, learning at the feet of masters. Put it this way; if you want to be a top-notch defender, who are you most likely to learn from playing alongside: Rio Ferdinand or Mikael Silvestre?

Such is United's continuity, even with a developing, growing, changing roll call of personnel, you could cheerfully put the mortgage on them doing it again in the certain knowledge that it is a bet more likely to accrue a profit than simply leaving the money in the bank. It doesn't really matter if next season they are led by Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema, it will be the same old story.

And, on the subject of bets: here's one I reckon worth a bob or two. Should United beat Barcelona in Rome in 10 days' time, it might be worth putting money on Sir Alex Ferguson finally retiring at the end of next season. Think about it: he has already pulled his team alongside Liverpool's record in the domestic championship, with another likely to follow. If he can match them in continental competition, and pick up the club's fifth European Cup next May in Madrid, then what is there left for him to do?

He will finally and unequivocally have achieved what he set out to do when he arrived at Old Trafford 23 years ago. He will have knocked Liverpool off their effing perch.

So finally, after a long and grueling season the title race will be over at around 2.30pm BST and unfortunately for me I'm going to have to watch it happen against me favorite team........... Well United fans, at least you don't get to win it at the Emirates like we did at Old Trafford a few years ago...... OK, it was more than a few years ago but still, I can pretend it was!

I'm trying to muster up a case for why Arsenal could upset United tomorrow and the only thing I can come up with is that they have Ar Ar Arshavin back after he bout of flu last week. I'm sure if he had been playing against Chelsea last week Arsenal would have fared much better as they might well have converted a few more of the whole host of chances they had.

If I were Arsene Wenger I'd go with two up front, something he has been reluctant to do of late, but when you consider how easily United dealt with the Gunners when playing with a lone striker they might as well revert to 4-4-2 as there is not point playing conservatively....... It's three points of nothing!

Wednesday May 13, 2009 Kick off: 20:00 37th Day JJB Stadium

Manchester United can move to within one point of wrapping up a third straight Premier League title by beating Wigan here on Wednesday.

But Alex Ferguson's stars have been warned by France defender Patrice Evra that they could yet throw the title away if they allow any hint of complacency to creep in ahead of their trip to the JJB Stadium.

The World Club champions and Champions League finalists will move six points clear of Liverpool at the summit with two games remaining if they defeat their mid-table opponents.

That will leave Sir Alex Ferguson's side requiring a point at home to Arsenal on Saturday to equal Liverpool's record of 18 English titles.

Yet Evra is taking nothing for granted as he eyes his own third Premier League winners medal since moving to Old Trafford from Monaco in January 2006.

"We're nearly there," said Evra. "If we win against Wigan, it will be very important for winning the title. But it's not finished yet.

"We have a Champions League final to look forward to, but we have to put that to the back of our minds and concentrate on the league.

"The manager tells us we need to win every game. At Manchester United the aim is always to win.

"In March we lost to Liverpool and Fulham, the first time since I arrived that we'd lost two league games in a row.

"I've never felt pain like that in my life before and I don't want to feel like that again.

"That's why I'm confident we'll finish the job and go on and win the league."

Liverpool's form and superior goal difference means United will almost certainly have to win at least one of their remaining three matches to be sure of the title.

As a result, Ferguson will be keen to get the job done here rather than having to rely on beating either Arsenal or Hull on the final day of the season when Phil Brown's side may be playing for Premier League survival.

History suggests United should take the three points however. United have not lost a league game against Wigan and the last time they visited the JJB Stadium they left with the Premier League trophy after winning 2-0 to clinch the title on the final day of last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot in that victory yet the Portugal winger could be rested this time as Ferguson rotates his squad following Sunday's 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

Ronaldo reacted with a display of petulance when he was substituted after scoring against City yet Ferguson refused to criticise the player afterwards.

Carlos Tevez, whose future remains unclear, may make way for Wayne Rooney even though the Argentina striker scored against City. Tevez celebrated his goal by running to the main stand and cupping his ear as fans chanted "Fergie, Fergie sign him up".

Evra is close friends with Tevez, whose two year loan at the club expires in the summer.

"I am very pleased for Carlitos. Whenever he plays, he respects the shirt of Manchester United. He is a great professional," added Evra.

Wigan are managed by former United captain Steve Bruce, who insists he will put sentiment to one side as he looks to delay his former club's title party.

Having enjoyed a largely successful season, Wigan have picked up just one point from the last five games and Bruce is anxious his players finish on a winning note.

Wigan captain Mario Melchiot revealed that Bruce let rip after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at West Brom.

"The gaffer was understandably upset," said Holland international Melchiot.

"It's a big game coming up against Manchester United which is going to be tough, but it's one we're looking forward to.

"The big games are always special occasions and we hope to perform a lot better."

Wigan will be without Egypt striker Amr Zaki because of a knee injury while former England keeper Chris Kirkland is also struggling with a back injury.

The Sun reported that the popular Argentinean striker will not turn down the chance of playing for United's bitter rivals next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who prevented Gabriel Heinze from moving to Anfield some seasons back, will surely be alarmed that a fan favourite joins Liverpool.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also in the hunt as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid and Italian side AC Milan - according to various sources.

The 25-year-old had told Sunday newspapers he thought he would leave United after his loan spell in the summer because he had not been offered a new contract.

Typically, Ferguson has brushed aside questions about the future of Tevez.

But Ferguson, speaking after United‘s 2-0 win over Manchester City in which Tevez scored, is refusing to quash speculation over the striker‘s future.

“I didn’t read any of the papers. He‘s a Manchester United player,” he said.

Tevez scored a wonderful 45th minute goal for United, firing the ball into the back of the net in off the post from the edge of the area.

The Argentine then ran to his manager cupping his ears, while the Old Trafford faithful sang “Fergie, sign him up.”

Tevez is a favourite of the United fans, who have made no secret of their desire for him to stay.

“They love a trier and that‘s exactly what he is,” added Ferguson.

But when pressed, the Old Trafford boss refused to answer further questions on Tevez, despite the player voicing his concerns in the papers.

“I am very sad about this but I guess what I‘m saying is goodbye,” the striker told the News of the World.

“I don‘t think I‘ll be a United player next season. I‘ve done everything I possibly can but they have never made me an offer or given me a contract.”

Reports from England has suggested that the 23-year-old could be a summer target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Megson, though, has every intention of retaining Cahill's services and revealed the club are keen to extend his stay at the Reebok Stadium.

He said in the Daily Mirror: "Gary is under contract and we are currently in the process of negotiating a new, improved deal for him.

"He's the best young centre-half in the country by an absolute street and I've been delighted with him again this year.

"I want to build the team around him for the next few seasons.

"I can understand why the big clubs are interested in Gary, but it's going to take an offer over and above what we received for Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea."

Man Utd beat Man City 1-0 earlier this season at the City of Manchester Stadium, whilst last year's Manchester United vs Manchester City derby at Old Trafford saw City run away 2-1 winners.
After the convincing 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Tuesday night that has seen them through to the Champions League Final for the second year running, it can now be said that Man Utd have well and truly found their form again after the blip in March and April.
Ronaldo, in particular, is in his best form of the season, scoring twice in the victory over Arsenal and twice in the Red Devils' last two league matches. Whilst for Manchester City it is Robinho who is hotting up, with the Brazilian scoring three times in City's last three league matches.
Manchester United must take seven points from their remaining four matches to clinch the title for the third successive year, so its crucial that the Red Devils don't let up in their end of season run-in, with matches against the likes of Arsenal and Wigan still to come.
Manchester City also have everything to play for, with a spot in next season's UEFA Cup still up for grabs. Trailing seventh placed West Ham by only a point, City will have to take as many points from their remaining three matches to stand a chance of European qualification.

With manager Mark Hughes undoubtedly looking to expand the team with some big-name signings for next season - Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o reportedly the latest target - a chance at European glory may convince star players to sign for City that otherwise would not have considered such a move.

Manchester United have only dropped five points at home all season, and in spite of Man City's recent resurgence in form, the Citizens currently hold the fourth worst away record in the league. And so the impressive Red Devils are unlikely to concede any more points in this match, and will enter the Manchester Derby as strong favourites to win.

he Baggies could see their fate sealed on Saturday should they fail to take maximum points and results elsewhere go against them.

However, victory over the Latics would help to keep alive their fading hopes that a repeat of their 'Great Escape' heroics from 2005 is still possible.

Unfortunately for Tony Mowbray's men the signs do not look good, with just one win taken from their last 13 Premier League fixtures.

They have also won only one of their last eight matches against sides from the North West, and went down 2-1 at the JJB Stadium during the reverse fixture earlier this season.

While West Brom desperately need to find some form, the same can be said for their weekend opponents.

Wigan had appeared to be on course to challenge for a European spot until a run of one win in 14 put paid to those aspirations.

Failings in front of goal have cost the Latics dear, with Steve Bruce's misfiring strike force failing to find the target nine times during their recent slump.

They have, however, tasted defeat just twice in their last eight trips to the Midlands and will fancy their chances of taking a positive result away from The Hawthorns.

Phil Brown's side were rubbing shoulders with the UEFA Champions League hopefuls after winning six of their opening nine games as they confounded the critics following their promotion via the Championship play-offs.

But with just two further victories in their next 24 games, the Tigers have plunged down the table and now stand just three points above the relegation places.

Their last victory on home soil was the 2-1 success against Middlesbrough way back on 6th December, a factor which must be addressed if they are to preserve their top-flight status for another season.

Visitors Stoke, who were also tipped for an immediate return to the Championship after promotion last season, are currently eight points above the drop zone with just three games of the season remaining.

But manager Tony Pulis is refusing to become complacent until the Potters are mathematically assured of their place among English football's elite for another campaign.

The Cottagers are involved in a four-way tussle for the final Europa League spot after enjoying a splendid season under manager Roy Hodgson.

They slipped back to ninth following a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea last weekend and will be determined to pick up three points against Villa, with tough games still to come against relegation-threatened Newcastle and FA Cup finalists Everton.

Hodgson has been consistent with selection all season but he was forced to leave out the injured Andy Johnson and Simon Davies at Stamford Bridge.

Erik Nevland, who replaced Johnson in the starting line-up, also had to be substituted after picking up a knock but he has recovered and is available.

However, Hodgson will have to assess the fitness of Johnson (knee), Bobby Zamora (hip) and Paul Konchesky (knee) ahead of kick-off.

Toffees boss David Moyes is believed to have rekindled his interest in Love after losing Yakubu Aiyegbeni and James Vaughan to long-term injuries.

The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have also been linked with the highly-rated 24-year-old.

However, Love says Everton are the only club to have contacted him even though he admits a move to Real Madrid would be his dream destination.

"Just one club has contacted me and that club are Everton," Love is quoted as saying in The Sun. "But it would be marvellous to play for Real Madrid - every player dreams of joining them.

"I will do everything I can and more to negotiate my release with the CSKA president.

The Scot, 52, has been handed an 18-month contract by chairman Niall Quinn as the reward for his four games in charge as caretaker, which have brought two victories, a draw and a single defeat, and that away to Manchester United.

Sbragia succeeds Roy Keane, who resigned earlier this month after 27 months in the belief he had taken the club as far as he could.

Quinn said: "Ricky Sbragia is a thoroughly professional football person.

"We have been taken aback by how easily he has slotted into the managerial role and are really heartened by his intelligent approach in dealing with the players and the day-to-day rigours of the job.

"Ricky took up the reigns when we were at low ebb and has without doubt revitalised the club.

"He is the unanimous choice of the executive board and will receive every support in his new role. The ownership of the club have also fully endorsed the appointment.

"I'm sure all of our fans, and the players too, will give Ricky their full backing in his first senior management position.''

The appointment was confirmed after a boardroom meeting this morning in the wake of yesterday's 0-0 home draw with Blackburn, which followed victories over West Brom and Hull.

Sbragia was delighted to have been offered the opportunity as he and his players prepared to travel to Merseyside for tomorrow's Barclays Premier League clash with Everton.

He said: "I'm delighted to have been offered the opportunity to manage a club as big as Sunderland and I'm relishing the challenge ahead.

"My main priority is moving up the Premier League table and ensuring we have unity and stability at the club.

"I've been extremely pleased by the commitment shown by the players to date and the support we have all received from the fans.

"We travel to Merseyside this afternoon and I can hardly wait.''

Today's announcement comes as no surprise despite the club being linked with a host of big names since Keane decided to call it a day.

Chelsea were the first team to stop Barcelona from scoring at the Nou Camp this season in the first-leg (0-0).

Chelsea have drawn the first leg of a CL semi final tie on two occasions. In 2004/05, they exited the competition to Liverpool after a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in the first leg - going on to lose 1-0 at Anfield in the second leg. Last season they avenged this defeat with a 3-2 home win in the second leg after a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the first meeting.

Barcelona have only drawn the first leg of a semi-final tie on one occasion - this came last season against Manchester United, which they drew 0-0 at home. United went on to defeat the Spaniard's in the second leg (1-0) at Old Trafford to reach the final.

The last side to defeat Chelsea at home in the Champions League was Barcelona when they won 2-1 in 2006.

This was the London side's only loss to the Blaugrana at home, winning their other three encounters on home soil.

Since then the Blues have won 13 of their 17 European matches at Stamford Bridge

Barcelona have drawn both of the away legs of their Champions League knockout matches 1-1 this season against Lyon and Bayern Munich.

Chelsea have averaged 2.5 goals per game at home in the Champions League since the start of 2008, winning six of these seven matches.

Chelsea have drawn the first leg of a Champions League knockout match on six occasions, winning the next leg five times, and losing once (against Liverpool in 2005).

Martin O'Neill is optimistic Aston Villa can "withstand" any offers this summer from the Barclays Premier League big guns for the club's group of talented young players.

Winger Ashley Young and striker Gabriel Agbonlahor capped off an outstanding season by being voted the PFA Young Player Of The Year and runner-up respectively.

O'Neill said: "Players are under contract. That is vitally important. With Gareth Barry, you do accept having spent 10-11 years at the club, he would be wanting to have a look at other particular things."

He added: "The rest of the boys have done well, but haven't in terms of over a long period of time for me to be overly concerned about that.

"I am quite sure I would be surprised if some people were not inquiring about our players - big teams - but I am hoping we will be able to withstand that.

"Are Villa no longer a selling club? At the moment we are pretty vibrant and that seems to be the buzz going around the Premier League.

"It will be up to us to try and maintain that. I just think there is a bit of something about the side here we would like to continue trying to improve

The Gunners, much changed ahead of the second leg of their Champions League clash with holders United, were helped on their way when England goalkeeper David James made his latest high-profile mistake by letting Nicklas Bendtner's weak header slip through his fingers.

Danish striker Bendtner made it 2-0 four minutes before half-time from the penalty spot following a disputed foul by Sean Davis on Andrey Arshavin.

Pompey were punished for missing chances early in the second-half when Carlos Vela added a third Arsenal goal and the hosts then saw Noe Pamarot sent-off for a foul on Arshavin.

Manchester City left Blackburn Rovers nervously looking over their shoulders after a 3-1 win at Eastlands where South American trio Felipe Caicedo, Robinho and Elano all scored before the break.

Caicedo sent City on their way from the edge of the six-yard box before Robinho added a second with a shot that gave keeper Paul Robinson no chance.

Elano made it 3-0 from the penalty spot after handball in the box before Rovers pulled one back through Keith Andrews.

Elsewhere, Tottenham beat bottom-of-the-table West Brom 1-0 thanks to Jermaine Jenas's 25-yard curling shot while Diego Tristan's free-kick from a similar distance gave European contenders West Ham a 1-0 win away to Stoke.

Liverpool vs Newcastle United Live Streaming

Premier League leaders Manchester United piled the pressure on second-placed Liverpool by moving six points clear at the top with a 2-0 win away to relegation-threatened Middlesbrough on Saturday.
Goals either side of half-time from Ryan Giggs and Park Ji-Sung ensured an easy win for Sir Alex Ferguson's reigning champions at the Riverside Stadium.
Liverpool will narrow the gap to three points again if they beat another relegation candidate in Newcastle on Sunday but, whatever the result at Anfield, they will still have played one game more than United.
Defeat left Middlesbrough second bottom in the table and still three points short of safety.
"It was a very good performance in the sense that they all worked their socks off," said Ferguson, whose side are bidding to equal Liverpool's record of 18 English titles.
Chelsea, at full strength ahead of the second leg of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona, moved level on points with Liverpool after a 3-1 home win in the west London derby against Fulham, the first three goals coming in the opening 10 minutes.
The match at Stamford Bridge was not yet 60 seconds old when Nicolas Anelka scored after Florent Malouda's cross was held up by Didier Drogba.
But Chelsea's lead lasted just three minutes before Erik Nevland unleashed a shot which Petr Cech got a hand to but could not keep out.
Fulham, the surprise package of the Premier League season, were behind again in the 10th minute when John Pantsil was unable to cut out Drogba's cross and Malouda scored at the back post.
Drogba got on the scoresheet early in the second-half after strike partner Anelka returned the Ivorian's earlier favour.
Elsewhere Arsenal's 3-0 win away to Portsmouth at Fratton Park ensured the 'Big Four' - United, Liverpool, Chelsea and the Gunners - would all look down on the rest of the table come the end of the season.
Victory left fourth-placed Arsenal 13 points clear of Aston Villa with only a maximum of 12 available to the Midlands club, who play Hull on Monday

One goal in their last four Premier League outings says Newcastle cannot score for toffee and the likelihood of them adding to that paltry tally at Liverpool is slight, to say the least. So get Jose Reina on board for 11.28 - even though he's on the expensive side, the Spaniard is as good as a dead cert for a clean sheet. If not, look no further than the slightly cheaper Brad Friedel (8.98) or even Manchester City's Shay Given (7.50, home to Blackburn). Rovers' own Paul Robinson (4.79) remains a tempting gamble if you think, like us, he can hold City, whose half decent-run must surely come to an end sooner rather than later.

Lose 'em: Fulham's Mark Schwarzer has been one of the keepers of the season, but with a West London derby at Chelsea on the horizon, it's time to cash in the 13.94 you spent on him. Meanwhile, another 17.5-point haul from David James (9.61) is unlikely with Portsmouth facing free-scoring Arsenal this week, so you're probably best off without the England shot-stopper.

West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola is uncertain whether Scott Parker will play again this season due to the midfielder's chronic groin problem.
Parker, 28, has been out for more than a month with the complaint but Zola is hopeful the former Newcastle player will not require surgery to correct the injury.
don't know if he will play again this season to be honest," Zola said. "He is working very hard on his fitness so that he can play again this season but it is unsure whether he can."
Zola had a similar injury during his playing career and he has offered Parker, who played a key role in the club's revival this season, advice on how to manage it.
problem is he has a chronic inflammation in the groin and this has caused him problems, it is as simple as that," Zola said.
have had the same problem he has now many years ago. It is tough because one day you feel okay and the day after you feel bad.
maybe in five or six days it might be better. I am not worried and I am sure he will get over this. I'm just a bit disappointed as he's one of our key players and obviously to be missing him at this part of the season is no good for us."
Zola is confident Parker will eventually be playing normally and it is not a problem he will carry for the rest of his career.
I sorted it out I never had problems again with that," Zola said. "I gave Scott all my knowledge about it, but everyone is taking care of him. You have to be patient and keep working until he gets over it.

Almunia joined the Gunners from Celta Vigo in July 2004, and so under residency laws would soon be eligible to apply to become a naturalised British citizen. Given the 31-year-old has yet to be called up into the Spain national team, there remains a genuine possibility Almunia would, under FIFA regulations, be available for selection to England coach Fabio Capello for the 2010 World Cup.

are international rules which have to be respected, but if it is possible legally, why not?" said Wenger. "Then it is more a choice left to the English Football Association or to Manuel Almunia's desire. I believe he is not only good enough, but he is the best."

The Gunners boss added: "It is down to what you expect morally and mentally from a national team.

believe at some stage you have to observe just the rules and decide what you want.

the English side, for the national team, it is not so much a problem because if the guy decides to become English, he has had to observe and respect the rules like anybody else.

should he then not be qualified to play for the national team?

is more a moral problem maybe for Manuel Almunia, because does he consider he has a chance to play in the Spanish

Veloso was linked with a move away from Portugal in the winter transfer window, with Bolton Wanderers demonstrating an interest in his services.

However, the the 22-year-old's, agent Paulo Barbosa, has stated that affluent club City could be poised to make an offer for his signature in the summer.
Barbosa said in The Sun: "We have had some talks with Manchester City.

There has as yet been no agreement to turn the Argentina striker's loan spell into a permanent deal and he has revealed he would like a move to Spain.

Tevez has failed to hold down a place in the starting XI this season and is unhappy with his lack of action.

"It's true I've spent a lot of time on the bench and I'd like to play more. But every time I'm given a chance I do all I can to do well and take full advantage," Tevez told Madrid's Cadena COPE radio station.

"Yes it's true I see myself more leaving United than staying here. I don't see why I should lie to people or anything because the fans support me a lot, as you can see. So I don't have any reason to lie to them.

"While I wear the United shirt, I will leave my life on the pitch. My future? I don't know what will happen for my future.

"I would like to go to Spain, yes, but I don't know yet. I have no preference for a team. With respect to the fans and the history of Manchester United, I don't want to leave the club.
